Stepping Stone

Dec 4, 2014

The goal of this project was to provide Stepping Stone, a non-for-profit organization, with a dynamic and easy to edit website. Our goal was to accomplish all the major tasks that our client had requested for. These included: a message board for clients to communicate, integration with social media (Twitter and Facebook), a responsive website that would be accessible through smart devices, and a well-organized website that is appealing and easy to navigate.

We built the website using WordPress as it provides an easy to use administration panel which would help the staff at Stepping Stone to be able to change and adjust content on their new website. We carefully chose plugins that would allow us to extend WordPress’ functionality to add an easy to use message board (members-only forum), integrate Twitter and Facebook, and to add an events calendar to their website.

Being able to work on a real life project brought out the best of us and helped us widen our technical skills. It strengthened our communication skills and eased communicate between us and the client. We were able to better understand our client’s needs and respond to the best of our abilities. We learned that communication is the key to the success of the project. Once you fully understand what the client needs, you can convey your message and come up with a middle ground with what is achievable and what meets the client’s needs.
