Oladapo Oyebode joined the board of Imhotep’s Legacy Academy

Oladapo Oyebode joined the Board of Imhotep’s Legacy Academy (ILA) in June 2026, a Dalhousie-affiliated academic enrichment program that aims to increase the representation of African Canadians in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions.

Its programming is deliberately technical: the ILA Coding Program teaches hands-on computer programming to African Nova Scotian youth aged 14 to 20, working in schools, the ILA Makerspace in Sexton Campus, and community centres near African Nova Scotian communities, with the explicit aim of equipping students for employment or entrepreneurship in the technology field. Its FIRST LEGO League robotics programme has junior high students aged 9 to 14 designing, building and programming robots for competition – ILA has competed since 2011, taking regional and provincial awards for mechanical design, technical design and presentation.
