{"id":154,"date":"2020-11-29T21:03:11","date_gmt":"2020-11-30T02:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.cs.dal.ca\/wads2021\/wordpress\/?page_id=154"},"modified":"2021-07-12T11:02:55","modified_gmt":"2021-07-12T14:02:55","slug":"code-of-conduct","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/projects.cs.dal.ca\/wads2021\/code-of-conduct\/","title":{"rendered":"Code of Conduct"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WADS participates in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/safetoc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">SafeToC<\/a> and is dedicated to providing an environment that is free from harassment, bullying, discrimination, and retaliation for all participants.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All participants at WADS are expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Exercise\u202d \u202cconsideration\u202d \u202cand\u202d \u202crespect\u202d \u202cin\u202d \u202ctheir\u202d \u202cspeech\u202d \u202cand\u202d \u202cactions;<\/li><li>Refrain\u202d \u202cfrom\u202d \u202cdemeaning,\u202d \u202cdiscriminatory,\u202d \u202cor\u202d \u202charassing\u202d \u202cbehaviour\u202d \u202cand\u202d \u202cspeech.\u202c\u202c<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Unacceptable behaviour during WADS is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Abusive action directed at an individual, such as threats, intimidation, or bullying;<\/li><li>Racism, homophobia, and other behaviour that discriminates against a group or class of people;<\/li><li>Sexual harassment of any kind, such as unwelcome sexual advances, words\/actions of a sexual nature, unwelcome touching of an individual\u2019s body, humiliating comments about an individual\u2019s appearance, or displaying or distributing\u00a0sexually explicit images or messages.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Harassment can occur when there is no deliberate intention to offend. Be careful in the words that you choose. Harassment committed in a joking manner or disguised as a compliment still constitutes unacceptable behavior. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a participant engages in prohibited behaviour during WADS activities, WADS reserves the right to <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Remove them from the conference without warning or refund;<\/li><li>Prohibit them from participating in future WADS conferences.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Appropriate sanctions also will be taken toward any individual who knowingly makes a false allegation of harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone who observes or experiences such incidents should report them to the WADS ToC advocates, who are <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.toronto.edu\/~faith\/\" target=\"_blank\">Faith Ellen<\/a> (faith [at] cs.toronto.edu)<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:faith@cs.toronto.edu\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a>and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.umanitoba.ca\/~durocher\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stephane Durocher<\/a> (durocher [at] cs.umanitoba.ca).\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conflicts of Interests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Authors who submit papers to WADS and have reason to believe that a potential reviewer may be unfairly and negatively biased, may report such a conflict of interest to the ToC advocates.<br><br>WADS PC members and subreviewers will be instructed not to review papers of authors with whom they have a conflict of interest, in particular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Family member or close friend.<\/li><li>Ph.D. advisor or advisee (no time limit), or postdoctoral or undergraduate mentor or mentee within the past five years.<\/li><li>Person with the same affiliation.<\/li><li>Person involved in an alleged incident of harassment.
